Customer: Global semiconductor manufacturer
Problem: Our customer had an urgent need to cut down production costs. Following many months cutting down the cost of production including playbook actions like relocating production to cheaper locations, shrinking budget for additional services, slimming down the workforce, outsourcing parts of R&D, our customer was still not satisfied with their efforts. Their customers are putting on massive price reduction pressure, while at the same time demanding more advanced and sophisticated products which need investment in R&D, and on a very short deadline. They realised that with their current efforts they are only scratching the surface and need a far more radical solution.

How we helped: We suggested to turn to science and connected them to a scientist working on new applications for their industry using different materials. The company started to collaborate with the researcher using the expert hours option but eventually offered the researcher a full-time job and built a team of similar specialists around him. His new technology revolutionised the company approach to manufacturing its core products and saved them millions.

Customer: European cybersecurity company
Problem: Police across European countries were tasked with managing and processing enormous amounts of data of crime involving youth. The information had to be shared across countries and the police had to act on it accordingly. Our client was put in charge to build a platform to manage and process images from different sources such as social media, CCTV cameras, news, and so on. The company already had a strong analytics team, but it struggled to make sense of such an enormous amount of data. It became impossible for the policemen to review this data manually and make decisions about what crime was committed and who was involved.

How we helped: Our customer needed to create a team of data scientists to make sense of that data. They searched through our tech descriptions (Blitzcards) and found a few potential ideas on how to solve the problem. They hired an expert who knew the solution and a team to help the police understand not only the who, how and when of the crime but also when it might potentially happen again.

Problem: Our customer owns over 300 retail stores in the UK, and the majority of the sales are of food. The pricing pressure from customers, increasing competition, and rising costs of transportation in the UK forced our customer to find a new solution to optimise the stores and look for savings without sacrificing the quality of the services, products, and customer support. A massive amount of data about customer spending habits, products, suppliers, and the activities of the customer’s stores across the different regions of the country and seasons was collected to deeply understand the stores’ activities and how that could be improved.

How we helped: Our customer found several tech solutions for better food management in stores, and experts familiar with those solutions were contacted. The experts first they worked on a consulting project and, eventually, the expert was hired on a permanent basis to continue the store optimisation project, which was turned into an ongoing process of the retailer’s activities.
